5 stars for - Ghostface Killer - by M.Never. A complete stand-alone in a world filled with murder, mayhem and a New York mafia family that kept me completely captivated from start to finish. This is the second book I have read by this author and find her writing both unique and unconventional. In this over-saturated romance genre we as readers can get bored when authors stick to the same outline so when we find that rare writer who not only surprises you, but is not afraid to "break the rules" it's almost like you won a prize.
Stevie James grew up in the system until she was fourteen when she decided living on the streets was better than living in foster homes. Stevie made the mistake of trying to pick-pocket a man that was wise to her games and created a world of trouble for her. Stevie is put into an impossible situation and chooses to work for the man she tried to steal from. Years of training and classes turn her into a beautiful but deadly assassin that no one sees coming.
Now years later with her boss dead - Stevie is systematically taking out everyone who could have had a hand in killing her mentor. The latest mission has her in Colorado to take out a man she has no information on. This normally wouldn't bother Stevie but this guy gets to her. She spends a lot of time with her target and ends up developing real feelings for him which she never thought she was capable of having for anyone. How is she supposed to kill a man she has come to care for?
Wow this book was a rollercoaster of emotions and non-stop action from start to finish. Just when I thought I had things figured out something completely different would happen. I had to read this book from prologue to epilogue in one day just to see what would happen next. With so many interesting supporting characters we can always hope the author turns this one into a series!
