Amie's Review of The Social Affair by Britney King

Title: The Social Affair
Author: Britney King
Genre: Psychological Thriller
Release Date: January 18, 2018
In the tradition of Gone Girl and Behind Closed Doors comes a gripping, twisted, furiously clever read that demands your attention, and keeps you guessing until the very end. For fans of the anti-heroine and stories told in unorthodox ways, The Social Affair delivers us the perfect dark and provocative villain. The only question—who is it?
A timeless, perfect couple waltzes into the small coffee shop where Izzy Lewis works. Instantly enamored, she does what she always does in situations like these: she searches them out on social media.
Just like that—with the tap of a screen— she’s given a front row seat to the Dunns’ picturesque life. This time, she’s certain she’s found what she’s been searching for. This time, she'll go to whatever lengths it takes to ensure she gets it right—even if this means doing the unthinkable.
Intense and original, The Social Affair is a disturbing psychological thriller that explores what can happen when privacy is traded for convenience.

WOW I am a fan of this dark and twisted stuff BUT I got way more than I bargained for. I was looking forward to the story from Lizzie but had no clue the kind of story Josie was going to give us - WOW. I have been amazed by this author more than once I don't know how she comes up with this stuff but I hope she never stops.

I have to say I was more caught up in Josie than anyone. The way she had to act and pretend for her husband Grant and his church, the things she could and couldn't do. I mean who lives like that - cults do !! So again as interested as I was in Lizzie I think Josie stole the show. This is one of those stories that you cannot enter lightly. It is intense and crazy , be warned there are triggers for abuse and cheating etc etc.

In this day and age books like this are so relevant , social media is a crazy thing and you never know who people are because it is so easy to pretend to be someone else. This story could have been one of those alternate ending books , like if they choose this they get this ending BUT if they choose this it is a whole different ending !! I mean by the end this could have went so many different ways I was shocked but also not LOL. Just pick it up and read it , unless you like soft and sweet !!

Britney King lives in Austin, Texas with her husband, children, two dogs, one ridiculous cat, and a partridge in a pear tree.

When she's not wrangling the things mentioned above, she writes psychological, domestic and romantic thrillers set in suburbia.

Currently, she's writing three series and several standalone novels.
The Bedrock Series features an unlikely heroine who should have known better. Turns out, she didn’t. Thus she finds herself tangled in a messy, dangerous, forbidden love story and face-to-face with a madman hell-bent on revenge. The series has been compared to Fatal Attraction, Single White Female, and Basic Instinct.
The Water Series follows the shady love story of an unconventional married couple—he’s an assassin—she kills for fun. It has been compared to a crazier book version of Mr. and Mrs. Smith. Also, Dexter.
Around The Bend is a heart-pounding standalone, which traces the journey of a well-to-do suburban housewife, and her life as it unravels, thanks to the secrets she keeps. If she were the only one with things she wanted to keep hidden, then maybe it wouldn’t have turned out so bad. But she wasn’t.

The With You Series at its core is a deep love story about unlikely friends who travel the world; trying to find themselves, together and apart. Packed with drama and adventure along with a heavy dose of suspense, it has been compared to The Secret Life of Walter Mitty and Love, Rosie.

The Social Affair is an intense standalone about a timeless couple who find themselves with a secret admirer they hadn’t bargained for. For fans of the anti-heroine and stories told in unorthodox ways, the novel explores what can happen when privacy is traded for convenience. It is reminiscent of films such as One Hour Photo and Play Misty For Me.
Without a doubt, connecting with readers is the best part of this gig. You can find Britney online here:

I followed him, my hands shaking as I grew angrier by the second. “That’s it? You’re going to let me move out?”
Mitchell reached for his keys, then turned to me. “I can’t force you to stay here, Corina. If you’re unhappy, then yes, you should leave. Do I want you to? No, I don’t. I know I fucked up, but if you’re going to throw it in my face every goddamn chance you get, then you’re right, this won’t work.”
He headed to the stairs that led down to his front door. My heart raced, and I knew I couldn’t leave it like this. Closing my eyes, I called out to him. “Mitch! You never asked me to the Pecan Street Honky Tonk.”
Stopping, he looked back up at me. “What?”
I swallowed hard and took in a quick breath. “The dance, you never asked me. And well, Lane asked me.”
Sadness swept over his face. “What did you tell him?”
Wringing my hands together, I answered, “I haven’t responded…yet. I was waiting for you.”
Mitchell rushed back up the steps and stopped in front of me. I don’t think I’d ever felt my stomach dip like it did when he raced toward me. He cupped my face and leaned in. My chest rose and fell with each breath as I waited for him to speak. His touch sent a flurry of butterflies through my chest.
“Corina, will you go with me to the street dance next weekend?”
My teeth sank into my lip, and I watched as his eyes filled with lust.
“Yes.” I smiled and added, “But only as friends.”
The corner of his mouth rose into a sexy smirk. God, how I loved that smile of his. “It’s a date, then.”
“As friends,” I added.
He leaned down and pressed his lips to mine. Before I could even process his lips, they were gone and he was stepping back. “I’ll take it. For now.”

REVIEWED BY WENDY
4 stars

The Art of Us brought us into the world of comics and art/drawing, along with the romance. I learned so much about a different culture and the world of comic art. It was very fascinating and I devoured the information. It was just as significant to the story as the blooming romance between Lena and Amos. The romance was very slow-burning and had some angst to it. The progression of their relationship as the story went on was intriguing. I really enjoyed seeing it play out as I read. Lena and Amos were wonderful characters. There was depth to them and they were personable. I enjoyed reading about their persona as the story progressed. There were definite emotions to this story that made it more heartfelt. Hilaria always takes me on a journey whenever I read her books. The Art of Us did not disappoint and made for a great ride!
