REVIEWED BY JILL

3 stars for - Up In Smoke - book eight in the King series by T.M. Frazier. This book can be read as a complete stand-alone since Smoke, whose presence is a integral part of the group, doesn’t play a very large role up until now. So even though you should know all the men in the King series, your love affair could technically start here.
Frankie Helburn is a complicated girl that's daily life at a catholic high school in South Florida seems as boring and unassuming as they come. Living in a decent neighborhood with her father and keeping a low profile has helped her achieve these goals as she vows to help those who have been wronged. Taking extra precautions to ensure her safety all fly out the window when the man coming for her is just as sexy as he is dangerous.
Smoke has personal reasons for waiting to get his hands on Frank Helburn so when he is offered the job to watch his daughter in the hopes of finding him it seems like an easy choice. He should've realized right away when things look easy they rarely ever are because things go down hill so fast he doesn't have much time to figure out his next move before it all hits the fan again.
I'm am a huge fan of this series with both Preppy and King being on the list of my most favorite "dark heroes" ever, but with that being said Smoke just wasn't as engaging as the other guys for me. The story seemed to drag a bit at times and then when it finally starts to get amazingly good we were rushed to a anti-climatic finish. It was great to see Preppy/Bear/King and all the others though throughout this story and while this one was not my favorite, I honestly can't wait to read Nine's book next!
